Sports Performance Awards 2012 – in association with Leaders in Performance

The inaugural edition of the Sports Performance has been hailed a huge success and a very welcome addition to the sports performance industry. The Awards & Dinner show was held at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday 10th October 2012.

The Sports Performance Awards, which forms part of the official programme for the world renowned Leaders in Performance conference, is the first time all the people involved in putting an athlete or team on the winner’s podium will come together from across the world to recognise their peers.

An expert advisory panel consisting of professionals from Everton FC, Chelsea FC, USA Olympic Committee, McLaren Applied Technologies and many more had been reviewing the many outstanding contributions to sporting excellence and identified a special group of people eligible to receive a Sports Performance Award.

Among the many highlights of the Awards, was the “Contribution to Sports Science” award given to the Founder of the Milan Lab, Jean-Pierre Meersseman, presented by former AC Milan player Patrick Vieira, the “Outstanding Contribution to a Team’s Success” award given to the Head of the Barcelona Academy, Carlos Folguera presented by former FC Barcelona player Ronald de Boer and the award for “Outstanding Performance in a Medical Emergency” given to the medical teams at Bolton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur by ex-player Fabrice Muamba.

The other award winners were; British Cycling Performance Director, David Brailsford (Outstanding Contribution to performance innovation in sport), Chief Refereeing Officer a UEFA, Pierluigi Collina (Outstanding contribution to a profession) and David Weir Coach, Jenny Archer (Outstanding contribution to an athlete’s success).

All award winners were given an individually crafted demo of their professional careers.

Outstanding Contribution to a Team’s Success
Carles Folguera, Academy Director, FC Barcelona

Outstanding Performance in a Medical Emergency
Andrew Deaner, Cardiologist, London Chest Hospital
Dr. Shabaaz Mughal, Club Doctor, Tottenham Hotspur FC
Dr. Jonathan Tobin, Club Doctor, Bolton Wanderers FC
